BD logs 19 more Covid

cases, no deaths

Bangladesh reported 19 more Covid cases in 24 hours until Friday morning. With the new numbers, the caseload rose to 2,036,325, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). The daily case test positivity rate fell to 0.66 per cent from Thursday's 1.22 per cent as 2,880 samples were tested during the period. The mortality rate and recovery rate remained unchanged at 1.45 percent and 97.45 per cent, respectively. In October, the country reported 60 Covid-linked deaths and 10,043 cases. Bangladesh registered its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year and daily fatalities of 264 on August 10 the same year. — UNB

Elderly man dies after alleged

robbery at Chawkbazar home

An elderly man has allegedly been killed by robbers after a home invasion in Old Dhaka's Chawkbazar. Relatives found the victim, identified as 78-year-old Mansur Ahmed, with his hands and feet tied inside his home on the second floor of a six-storey building in the early hours of Friday. He was subsequently rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead, according to Mansur's son Sarwar Ahmed. The family owns the building in Khaje Dewan Road, where Mansur and his children lived, said Sarwar. Sarwar and other members of the family went to attend a wedding ceremony in the neighbourhood on Thursday, but Mansur stayed at home as he was feeling unwell. — bdnews24.com

Man stabbed to death in Dinajpur

Dinajpur, Nov 18: A 36-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly by some miscreants in Dinajpur's Birganj upazila on Friday, police said. The deceased was identified as Amal Debnath, son of late Dhirendra Debnath of Choupukuria village of Sator union of the upazila. He worked as a waiter in a local hotel. Subrata Kumar Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Birganj Police Station, said a group of miscreants swooped on him over an old enmity in the Singra Shalban area around 1pm. — UNB

Biscuit factory explosion kills youth in city

A 20-year-old youth died after an oven exploded in a biscuit factory in city's Kodomtoli Thursday, police said. Md Mozammel, from Sylhet's Habiganj, was working with the oven when it exploded at 09:30 pm, his colleague Azhar said. "He received serious injuries to his face and head." — UNB
