Ijtema devotees asked to wear adequate winter attire

The Ministry of Religious Affairs gave necessary instructions including wearing adequate winter gears, to Ijtema devotees. The ministry gave the instructions on Thursday for the smooth management of Bishwa Ijtema which will be held on January 13-15, according to an official release said on Friday. The instructions include motivating the devotees to wear and bring adequate winter cloths such as blankets, mufflers, hats, warm clothes, socks and gloves due to the prevailing cold weather in the country. The ministry urged all concerned to advise the devotees to wear masks considering the current corona situation, the release added. Other instructions are ensuring hot water and medical facilities, arranging adequate medicines to combat cold related diseases and providing ambulance service for immediate transport of critical patients to hospitals. — BSS

BD logs 10 more Covid cases

Bangladesh reported 10 more Covid cases in the last 24 hours to Friday morning.With the new numbers, the country's total caseload rose to 2,037,240, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). However, the official death toll from the disease remains unchanged at 29,440 as no new fatalities were reported. The daily case test positivity dropped to 0.39 per cent from Thursday's 0.46 per cent as 2,596 samples were tested during the period. — UNB.

15 hurt as intercity train derails in Kishoreganj

At least 15 passengers were injured as a bogie of an intercity train derailed at Bhairab Railway Station in Kishoreganj on Friday morning. The bogie of the Kishoreganj-bound intercity Egarosindhur Train from Dhaka came off the tracks at Bhairab station when the engine of the train was being changed at 9:30am, Station Master Md Nur Nabi said. At least 15 passengers were injured as the window glasses and floors of three bogies broke down following the derailment, Egarosindhur Train attendant Sohel said. The scale of the damage means it will take some time to operate the train as usual. "We will work to speedily make our repairs to get the train back on track as a salvage train arrives from Akhaura," the station master said. — UNB
