Writ seeking ban on

Indian TV channels filed

A writ petition, pleading for court's direction to ban broadcasting of Indian television (TV) channels in Bangladesh, has been filed. Supreme Court lawyer Syeda Shahin Ara Laili filed the plea with the High Court through her lawyer Md Aklas Uddin Bhuiyan on December 2. The writ also pleaded for court's direction to stop broadcasting of advertisements, meant for Bangladeshi consumers, on Indian TV channels. Confirming the information to the news agency, Advocate Bhuiyan said officials concerned, including Information Secretary, Home Secretary, BTRC Chairman, Bangladesh Bank Governor and Director General of BTV, were made respondents in the writ. — BSS

Seven arrested in city for drugs delivery

Member of the Department of Narcotics Control (Dhaka Metro Motijheel Circle) arrested seven individuals, including three women for their involvement in a narcotics home delivery network operating across various areas of Dhaka city. During the operations, authorities seized 1,670 Yaba pills, 7 grammess of crystal meth (ice), and 190 tapentadol tablets, a controlled narcotic substance. The arrestees were identified as Akhi Akter (34), Md. Ripon Ali (36), Rifat Rahman Rodela (27), Mohammad Ali Mukul (38), Md. Afif Aftaf (51), Anwara Aleya Begum (32), and Neyamat Hossain (30). — UNB
