Nine sued over college principal harassment in Faridpur

Faridpur, Sep 06 (UNB): A case was filed against nine people on charge of beating Nabokam Polli University College principal with a hammer and forcibly taking his signature on a resignation letter on Thursday in Faridpur's Saltha upazila.
Victim Principal Md Obaidul Rahman lodged the case with Saltha police station on Thursday night, the police station's Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Fayezur Rahman confirmed.
Some of the accused were identified as Kaium Mollah, Kamrul Gazi, Lalon, Monir and Mia, with Kaium the prime accused.
The plaintiff on Friday morning said some outside miscreants by Kaium, Kamrul and their cohorts beat him with a hammer to force him to resign.
"I did not sign the resignation letter at my will. So I filed a case against them for legal action. I hope I will get justice," he said.
Responding to a question, he said, "It is not the fault of the students. Students were used by these leaders. I don't want to harass students."
Faridpur's Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Nagarkanda-circle) Asaduzzaman Shakil said that he went to the college after the incident and searched for everything. A drive will be conducted to arrest those who attacked the principal.
On Thursday morning, some students of the college accompanied by outsiders beat the principal with a hammer and forcibly took his signature on a resignation.
A video clip, showing the principal being compelled to sign the resignation letter under duress, went viral on social media.
