CHATTOGRAM, July 10 (UNB): Director General (DG) of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Maj Gen Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui on Thursday expressed his firm belief that the newly-inducted BGB soldiers would protect every inch of the country's land even at the cost of their lives.

He was addressing the concluding ceremony of the 103rd recruit batch at the Border Guard Training Centre and College (BGT C&C) in Baitul Izzat, Satkania.

The BGB DG also said the instances of pushback or push-in by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) continue regularly, involving not only Bangladeshis but sometimes Indian nationals and Rohingyas as well - actions that constitute violations of human rights.

"We currently have around 57,000 personnel tasked with guarding a 4,427-kilometre border."

To address the manpower crisis, the government has assured the BGB of 5,000 new recruits, and the recruitment process is expected to begin soon, he mentioned.
