The Department of Management at North South University (NSU), in collaboration with UNDP Bangladesh, hosted a workshop on "Responsible AI in Practice: Civil Society, Governance, and Accountability in Bangladesh" on Tuesday at the university's campus in the city, according to a statement.
The workshop brought together key experts, including Sheela Tasneem Haq from UNDP Bangladesh, Dr. Zulkarin Jahangir from NSU, Dr. Syed Ishtiaque Ahmed from the University of Toronto, Shafiqul Alam from Victoria University of Wellington, and Quazi Tafsirul Islam from NSU.
The session was presided over by NSU's Associate Professor, Dr. Ziaul Haq Adnan.
Dr. Zulkarin Jahangir said responsible AI is not only a technical issue but also a governance challenge. He emphasised that without ethical frameworks and an understanding of local contexts, AI has the potential to exacerbate existing inequalities.
The workshop concluded with an engaging discussion on how academic institutions, NGOs, and development partners can work together to promote more ethical, responsible, and accountable AI practices in Bangladesh.
