North South University School of Humanities and Social Sciences (NSU SHSS) recently hosted another episode of the NSU SHSS Distinguished Lecture Series on its campus in the capital, according to a statement.
Titled "Gross National Happiness", the lecture featured Dasho Karma Hamu Dorjee, Ambassador of Bhutan to Bangladesh, as the keynote speaker.
North South University Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury chaired the session, while Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Nasar U. Ahmed attended as the special guest.
Ambassador Dasho Karma Hamu Dorjee introduced Bhutan's administrative system and provided an overview of the country's legislative and cultural frameworks.
She also discussed Bhutan's democratic journey and explained the nine domains and 33 indicators of Gross National Happiness (GNH).
The ambassador further presented the questionnaires used in GNH surveys and demonstrated how happiness is measured through a comprehensive scoring system.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury said Bhutan, despite having a population of only around 0.8 million, is delivering an important message to the world's nearly 8 billion people.
He said Bhutan's administrative system has articulated its approaches very effectively and noted that while the world is increasingly moving toward capitalist models and wealth concentration, Bhutan offers a different perspective.
Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Nasar U. Ahmed said Bhutan has adopted a well-structured and deliberate approach to environmental conservation.
