One dies as fishing trawler sinks in Bay

CHATTOGRAM, Feb 04: One fisherman died and fourteen others went missing as a fishing trawler capsized in the deep sea 30 miles west off the Saint Martin's Island in the Bay of Bengal today.

Fishing vessel FV Shah Bandar-2 sank as the sea went rough under the influence of a cyclone in the deep sea, said Saiful Islam, Lt Commander of the Coast Guard east zone.

Coast Guard Staff Officer (operations) Saiful said members of the coast guard started a rescue operation after the incident that occurred at around 4.30 am and rescued five fishermen alive and recovered body of one.

Fourteen other fishermen still remained missing, he said, adding there were reportedly 20 fishermen in the trawler.
