Outpatient services resume partially at nat’l eye hospital

FE REPORT | June 13, 2025 00:00:00

Outpatient services at the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital (NIOH) resumed on Thursday on a limited scale, on the 16th day of its closure.

The emergency department of the hospital remains operational while indoor services are still suspended.

All services at the hospital had been suspended on May 28 following a clash between staffers and a group of those injured in the July uprising, who had been receiving treatment at the facility, along with other patients and their attendants.

Doctors and other staff members said on Thursday that they have returned to the hospital.

They said that their regular attendance would be ensured if their demands were met. At the same time, they also expressed concern over their security.

Meanwhile, although services have partially resumed, the fourth floor of the hospital building remains occupied by July uprising injured protesters.

Reports indicate that several protesters inside the fourth floor are keeping the collapsible gate locked.

Attempts to communicate with them proved abortive.
