‘Persons with disabilities are not burden on nation’

Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed said on Friday the disabled persons are not burden of the nation as proper care can turn them into wealth, reports BSS.

"Proper care can transform the people with physical disabilities into resources of the country while most of the people considered them as a burden," he said.

The minister made the comment while speaking virtually at a programme at National Disability Foundation in the city's Mirpur, marking the 30th International Disability Day and 23rd National Disability Day.

"We must have to successfully implement the programmes which already have been taken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for promoting the quality livelihood of the disabled people", he told the function organised by the Social Welfare Ministry. "If we provide appropriate training to the disabled persons, they could be transformed into resources and would be able to contribute to the development of the country," the minister said.

To build a disabled-friendly country, the minister urged all to work for autistic people.
