Police begin wearing new uniforms

FE REPORT | July 02, 2026 00:00:00

Members of the Bangladesh Police began wearing their new uniforms featuring dark blue or light olive shirts paired with khaki trousers, on Wednesday, marking the rollout of a new dress code.

The new uniforms were seen during the inauguration of the newly built Borkau Police Camp at the RAJUK-developed Purbachal New Town project.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir attended the programme wearing a dark blue shirt, while Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed wore a light olive shirt. Both were dressed in khaki trousers.

Several police officers wearing the new uniforms expressed satisfaction with the change, saying the previous attire did not reflect the image of the Bangladesh Police.

DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Niaz Mehdi said police personnel started wearing the revised uniforms from Wednesday.

However, he said, the new uniforms have not yet been distributed to all members of the force and will be supplied in phases.

Those who have already received the new uniforms have started performing their duties wearing them, he added.

On June 18, Police Headquarters issued a notification introducing the revised colour scheme for police uniforms.

Besides changing the colours of shirts and trousers, the directive also revises the colour specifications for jerseys, cardigans, pullovers, jackets, women's uniforms, headgear and long-sleeved uniforms. Under the previous dress code, police personnel wore iron-grey shirts with coffee shell-coloured trousers, a coffee-brownish grey shade.
