Police issue guidelines for safe Eid journey

The Bangladesh Police on Thursday urged homebound passengers, transport owners and other stakeholders to abide by guidelines issued by the police headquarters in a circular on Thursday in order to ensure safe and smooth journey ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Assistant Inspector General (AIG) (media and public relations) at the Police Headquarters Enamul Huq Sagar said that people are requested to leave with sufficient time in hand and prioritise the safety of their family members.
The police headquarters called upon the passengers to cross the road safely where zebra crossing or foot bridges are unavailable, refrain from consuming anything offered by strangers and not to travel on the roofs of buses, pickups and goods-laden trucks or travel by train without tickets.
It urged the owners not to operate non-roadworthy buses and allow any unprofessional, sick and drug-addicted drivers while bus and other vehicle drivers are directed to drive carefully and keep driving license and other documents with them.
It also asked the launch owners to operate services by designated grade masters, halt operation in the case of inclement weather and not to carry excessive passengers. It instructed the masters of the launches, speedboats and steamers to leave the river ports after being aware of the weather forecasts and also urged the passengers to wear life jackets while traveling by speedboat.
