Police pick up four persons from Secretariat

Police on Thursday detained four persons from the Bangladesh Secretariat area for staging demonstrations demanding the issuance of an office order regarding payment of 20 per cent "secretariat allowance" to the employees of the top administrative headquarters of the country.
The development occurred a day after the employees of Bangladesh Secretariat kept Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed confined at his office for a period of over five and half hours on the same demand.
The adviser was confined at 8.0pm on Wednesday after he pledged to issue an office order on their demand by Thursday noon. The employees gave him up to 3.0pm to issue the office order.
However, on Thursday, as the order was not issued, the employees started gathering near the office building of the finance adviser amid huge police deployment at 3.0pm. At one stage police asked them not to stage demonstration and stay calm.
However, at one stage the employees started staging demonstration and chanting slogan violating police order.
At 4.0pm police picked up four employees, including the president of Bangladesh Secretariat Officer-Worker Sanjukti Parishard, Badiul Kabir.
