The government has decided to change the Bangladesh Police uniform, bringing khaki back into service after around 22 years.
Under the revised design, shirt colours for metropolitan and national police will remain unchanged, but all personnel will now wear khaki trousers.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed made the announcement at the ministry on Monday, reports bdnews24.com.
"There is dissatisfaction with the present police uniform across the country. Visibly, it is not suitable. On the request of the police force, we have considered the matter," he said.
"We have also considered introducing a more traditional dress. We have kept the existing shirt design for metropolitan and nationwide forces, but the trousers are being changed to khaki. The decision has been taken after detailed discussion," he added.
The minister said it would take some time before the new uniforms are fully introduced, as preparations are still under way.
Under the new arrangement, metropolitan police will continue to wear light olive shirts with khaki trousers, while district and other units will wear deep blue shirts paired with khaki trousers.
