Pregnant woman gangraped, two held

A pregnant woman was gang-raped in the capital's South Keraniganj neighbourhood on Saturday night.

However, police detained two individuals in connection with their alleged involvement in raping the woman who is undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

A South Keraniganj police official said the victim, who is four months pregnant, came to Sadarghat by launch from Chandpur at 3:30 pm on Saturday following quarrel with her husband.

Later, four unidentified persons at Postagola lured her to a secluded place at Panchgaon Rishipara under South Keraniganj in Dhaka and raped her by turn on that night.

However, following her scream, local people rushed to spot and caught two rapists red-handed. They were later handed over to the police. Two other rapists fled the scene before the arrival of the local people there.

The police official said they brought the victim to the DMCH on Sunday morning.

DMCH police camp in-charge Insp Md Faruk confirmed that the violated woman was admitted to the hospital for treatment.
