President for boosting relations between Bangladesh, Bhutan

Outgoing Bhutanese Ambassador in Dhaka Sonam Tobden Rabgye met with President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban in the city on Wednesday, reports UNB.

President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting.

During the meeting, the President laid emphasis on exploring trade potential of Bangladesh and strengthening the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Bhutan.

He also underscored the need for exchanging visits between businessmen and investors of the two countries.

Recalling the close ties between Bangladesh and Bhutan which started under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Abdul Hamid said the existing relations are very excellent.

He also expressed gratitude to the Bhutanese government and its people for first recognising Bangladesh as an independent state after the War of Liberation in 1971.

The President also mentioned that Bangladesh and Bhutan are jointly working on some sectors, including electricity.

He thanked the Bhutanese envoy for successfully completing his assignment in Dhaka.

The Bhutanese envoy said the bilateral relations are increasing day by day and have expanded many times in the last three years.

He expressed his gratefulness to the President for extending cooperation during his stay in Bangladesh.
