Pro-AL teachers sweep DUTA election

Awami League-backed Blue Panel teachers of Dhaka University (DU) swept the DU Teachers' Association (DUTA) election on Tuesday, bagging 14 out of 15 executive committee posts, reports UNB.

Prof Maksud Kamal of Earth and Environmental Sciences faculty and Business Faculty dean Prof Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam of the panel were elected president and general secretary respectively.

In the election, 1,551 out of 1,988 teachers cast their votes from 10:00 am to 02:00 pm.

Duta Election Commissioner Prof Tofail Ahmad Chowdhury announced the results at the DU Teachers' Club in the afternoon.

Prof Hasanuzzaman of Computer Science and Engineering department, was the lone executive committee member elected from pro-BNP White Panel.

The other office-bearers are vice-president Prof Imdadul Huq, Treasurer Momotajuddin Ahmed and joint secretary Tazin Aziz Chowdhury while the executive committee members are Chandranath Poddar, Zeenat Huda, Aftab Ali Shaikh, Ziaur Rahman, Nizamul Huq Bhuiyan, Sadeka Halim, Sabita Rizwana Rahman, Nisar Hossain and Soumitra Sekhar.
