Indian President Ram Nath Kovind said on Tuesday a strong, prosperous and progressive Bangladesh is in India's fundamental national interest, reports UNB.
His remarks came when a delegation of young Members of Parliament and political leaders from Bangladesh called on him at Rashtrapati Bhavan, according to a press release from the President's House of India.
Welcoming the delegation, the President said he was delighted to meet the next generation of politicians from Bangladesh.
India and Bangladesh are tied together by shared history, culture and familial ties, he said.
Kovind said the two countries are confronted with common challenges.
"Our shared aspirations should lead us to find the best ways to jointly harnessing our resources and capacities," the President said.
He urged members of the delegation to be ambitious in thinking of new ways in which "our partnership can help drive development and create shared prosperity."
The delegation members are Biplab Barua, Deputy Office Secretary of Awami League and Special Assistant to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, parliamentarians Nazrul Islam Babu, Sanowar Hossain, Jweel Areng, Fahmi
Golandaj Babel, Nahim Razzaque, Naimur Rahman Durjoy, Razi Mohammad Fakhrul, former Member of Parliament Anupam Sahjahan Joy, party leaders Sufi Faruque and Umme Razia.
Parliament member and Joint Secretary General of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh Mahi B. Chowdhury and Independent lawmaker Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury (Nixon Chowdhury) are in Delhi with the delegation.
They are scheduled to visit Mumbai on March 15 and will return home on March 16 after wrapping up their week-long India visit.
