Protesters under the banner of "July Warriors (Injured)" blocked the Shahbagh intersection in the capital on Thursday, demanding implementation of the July Charter.
The demonstrators began gathering at the intersection around 10:30am and staged a sit-in, halting vehicular movement and chanting slogans in support of their demands.
Their demands include official recognition of the martyrs and injured of the July mass uprising, paying tribute to them, and ensuring their access to treatment, education, rehabilitation, and employment opportunities.
They also called on the government to take responsibility for the families of the deceased and injured, provide allowances and legal protection, and form an independent commission to investigate and ensure justice for the killings during the July Uprising.
At the time of filing this report at 6:30pm, the blockade was still ongoing.
"We will continue our demonstration until the July Charter is officially announced," said Abul Hasan, one of the protesters.
Khalid Mansur, operation in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station, said the blockade had caused severe traffic congestion in the area.
