RAB detains fugitive accused of murder case

September 25, 2022 00:00:00

FE REPORT

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained a fugitive accused of a murder case.

The arrestee was identified as Md Alkes, 52.

Commander of RAB-4 and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mozammel Haque disclosed the development at a press briefing at RAB media centre in the capital's Karwan Bazar on Saturday.

He said that Alkes attacked one Bashu Mia due to a conflict over constructing a building on a piece of land under Shah Ali Police Station in the capital's Mirpur in 2012.

At one stage of the conflict, Alkes shot in Bashu's head, leaving him dead on the spot.

Chinu Mia, brother of Bashu, filed a case accusing 13 people, including Alkes, with Shah Ali Police Station.

Alkes has been on the run over the last 12 years until RAB-4 arrested him from Barisal Sadar on Friday, said the RAB commander. In all those years, Alkes escaped the arrest by changing his professions, the RAB official further said.

Mr Haque told the media that deceased Bashu and his brother Chinu had a 10-decimal paternal property in Mirpur's Chatbari area.

The land was leased on an annual basis to one Asgar Ali. But at one stage, Asgar claimed the ownership of the land by making forged land documents and later handed over the land to a fishermen's association in 2010.

Alkes was a member of the association located at Nobaberbagh in Mirpur's Chatbari, the RAB official said.

Later, Chinu and Bashu filed a case that led to a rift between the fishermen's association and the two brothers.
