Rape allegations against Noakhali UP chairman

NOAKHALI, Oct 06 (bdnews24.com): A woman has accused a Union Parishad (UP) chairman in Noakhali of raping and beating her.

The 26-year-old woman accused Chorbata UP chairman Mozzamel Hossain and two other residents of the Union, said Chorjabbar Thana Inspector Iqbal Hossain.

The woman had injury marks on her body. Police have sent her to Noakhali Sadar Hospital for treatment and a medical examination.

The woman told the media that she has a son and that her husband has not been in contact with them in the past four or five years and that she does not know his whereabouts. She said she had recently begun a romantic relationship with a Hatia Upazila resident, Rabiul Hossain.

"Rabiul introduced himself as unmarried, but I recently learned it was not true. I stopped talking to him but he came to our house on Wednesday. Chairman Mozzammel was informed of the situation."

The chairman dispatched a team of local police to bring Rabiul, the woman and a few others to his offices on Wednesday, she said.

"The chairman insulted me and beat Rabiul."

"Then he took me to a separate room, stripped and raped me. When I said I would tell everyone, he began beating me. They let me go around 9:00 am on Thursday after I fell ill."
