Remote areas to get improved livestock breeds: Minister

Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim has said the government is working to spread the improved species of livestock to remote areas of the country in a scientific way, reports UNB.

"In the near future, we can take the benefits of research to the remote areas of Bangladesh. It'll enable us to export meat, milk and eggs after meeting the domestic demand by achieving self-sufficiency in these areas," he said.

The minister was speaking at a view-exchange meeting after the inauguration of an international standard antimicrobial resistance (AMR) laboratory at the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) in Savar.

He said rural people will feel encouraged if the results of the modern research are spread to the villages and remote areas and their unemployment problem can be removed by farming in addition to reviving the rural economy.

Mentioning the BLRI inventions are contributing to the progress of the entire nation, SM Rezaul Karim said, "In the future, we'll have to increase the supply of protein and nutrition with their growing demand across the world."

Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Rawnak Mahmud, additional secretaries Kazi Wasi Uddin and Subol Bose Moni, and Director General of Livestock Services Department Dr Abdul Jabbar Sikder, were present at the function presided over by BLRI Director General Dr Nathu Ram Sarker, said a handout.
