The capital's development authority has been directed to prevent the construction of unplanned buildings, Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rejaul Karim said on Monday, reports UNB.

"We will take strict legal actions against illegally constructed buildings," he said, replying to a question at a review meeting on 'Urban Resilience Project' of Rajuk on earthquake.

Risky and uninhabitable buildings are being identified. "Once the process is complete, we will move ahead [with demolition]," he said.

The buildings' owners will first be asked to tear them down. "If they do not comply, we will move to dismantle the structures following legal procedures," the minister added.

"Every building must be [constructed] in line with Rajuk's plan. Any building outside the plan will face action," he said.

"Rajuk will have to strengthen its monitoring system in this regard."
