Road accidents kill eight in two dists

Eight people, including three of a family, were killed in two road accidents in Gopalganj and Bogura districts on Wednesday, reports UNB

In Gopalganj: three people, all members of the same family, were killed and two others injured when a truck collided with a human hauler on Dhaka-Khulna highway at Majhigati in Kashiani Upazila of the district.

The deceased were identified as Selina Begum (48), headmistress of Jaynagar Govt Primary School, her daughter Eka Moni (20), assistant teacher at Char Muguria Govt Primary School and Eka Moni's daughter Maisha (3).

Two others- Eka Moni's son Bishal and human hauler driver Kamrul- were also injured in the crash.

Selina's nephew Nadim Hossain said the human hauler fell into a roadside ditch being hit by the truck in Majhigati around 2:00 pm, leaving two passengers dead on the spot.

Three of the injured were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where Eka Moni succumbed to her injuries and the other two are undergoing treatment, said officer-in-charge of Kashiani Police Station Azizur Rahman.

In Bogura: At least five people were killed and seven injured as a truck hit a human hauler on Bogura-Natore road at Partekur in Sadar Upazila on Wednesday.

Three of the deceased were identified as Sumon (28), son of Hafizar Rahman of Kukrul village in Sadar Upazila, Anwar Hossain (25), son of Abdul Hye of Koigari Khadai village in Shahjahanpur Upazila and Moklesur Rahman (52) of Nandigram village.

The identity of the other could not be known immediately.

The accident took place around 9:00 am when a truck rammed a human hauler leaving 12 people injured, said Sub-inspector Abdul Aziz Mandal of Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital police camp.
