Road crashes kill five in two districts

At least five people were killed and 22 others injured in separate road accidents in Gopalganj and Chittagong on Tuesday, reports UNB.

In Gopalganj, three people were killed and 20 others injured as a bus collided head-on with a truck on Dhaka-Khulna Highway in the Pona area in Kashiani upazila on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Shajahan Mollah (50), son of Rulu Mollah, truck helper Shohag Talukdar (18), son of Barkat Talukdar of Bhudhpasha village of the upazila and an unidentified woman.

The accident took place when a Pirojpur bound bus collided head-on with a brick-laden truck in the area around 12:30 pm, leaving the trio dead on the spot and 20 others injured, said Hossain Muhammad Raihan, Police Superintendent of Muksudpur Police Station.

The bodies were sent to the Sheikh Sayera Khatun Medical College morgue for autopsy, he said.

The injured including three in critical condition were admitted to Sheikh Sayera Khatun Medical College and Kashiani upazila health complex.

In Chittagong, two people were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between an oil tanker and a truck in the Chhoto Kamaldah area of Mirsharai upazila on Tuesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Md Abdul Kashem, s truck driver, hailing from Feni, and security guard Md Kashem.
