Road, train crashes leave nine dead

Nine people were killed in separate road and train accidents in Naogaon, Manikganj and Kushtia districts on Sunday, report agencies.

In Naogaon, six people were killed in two road accidents in Porsha and Potnitala upazilas.

Four of the deceased were identified as Abdul Salam, 52, Ashraful Islam, 45, Hira Bibi, 60, and Ramjan Ali, 50.

Police superintendent of Naogaon Md Iqbal Hossain said a Porsha-bound bus hit an auto-rickshaw, leaving three people dead on the spot and five others injured at Kusrapara area.

Meanwhile, in another accident, Ramjan, a fisherman, died when a fish-laden three-wheeler overturned at Bridgermor area of Potnitala upazila, said officer-in-charge of Potnitala Police Station Mazharul Islam.

In Manikganj, a man was killed and four others were injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway near Muljan under Manikganj sadar upazila on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Mintu Mia, 26, son of Moslem Uddin of Uttar Tara village in Manikganj district.

Police said the accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound bus knocked a Leguna from behind in the area around 7.30 am, leaving Mintu dead and injuring four others on the spot.

In Kushtia, two schoolboys were killed as a train hit their motorcycle at Chitholia level crossing near Poradaha Railway station in the district on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Ayatullah, 14, son of Saidul Islam of Ailchara village in Sadar upazila and Mubin, 13, son of Saidul Islam of same village. They were students of Aoichara High School.
