RU celebrates 73rd founding anniversary

The Rajshahi University (RU) celebrated its 73rd founding anniversary on Monday with a series of daylong programmes under the theme 'Rajshahi University in Education, Research and Democratic Progress'.

The celebrations began in the morning with teachers, students, officers and employees gathering at the university's administrative building. Land Minister and Rajshahi-2 MP Mizanur Rahman Minu formally inaugurated the programme as the chief guest by releasing balloons and pigeons. A colourful procession, tree plantation and a discussion were also held.

Addressing the programme, the minister highlighted the university's contribution to education and democratic movements. He announced a donation of Tk 1.0 million for the university's development, and expressed hope that its infrastructure needs, including residential halls and academic buildings, would be addressed soon.

RU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Faridul Islam paid tribute to the founders of the university and martyred teachers. He said the university is moving forward with several development plans aimed at strengthening its excellence.

The anniversary celebrations concluded with sports competitions at the university stadium in the afternoon, followed by a cultural programme in the evening.
