Seven-day ultimatum to arrest killers of RU student

RAJSHHAI UNIVERSITY, Oct 23: Teachers and students of the Mass Communication & Journalism (MCJ) department of Rajshahi University (RU) demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment to the killers of Motalab Hossain Lipu, a 2nd year student of the department through protest rally and human chain on the campus on Sunday.

They announced a series of protest programmes along with giving a 7-day ultimatum to the university administration to arrest the killers.

MCJ department head Prof Pradip Kumar Pande declared the ultimatum at a human chain formed on Sunday in front of the Rabindra Arts building.

The speakers at the programme warned that they would go for strong movement if significant progress in the investigation is not made within seven days.

Earlier, police recovered the body of Lipu from a drain behind the Abdul Latif Hall of the university on Thursday morning.

Ashok Chouhan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Motihar Police Station and also Investigation Officer (IO) of the murder case, said, "Lipu's roommate Monirul Islam was produced before the Rajshahi Magistrate Court on Sunday afternoon seeking remand. But the court sent him to jail. The hearing on remand will be held later."
