Shamsad Mortuza appointed ULAB VC

Professor Dr. Shamsad Mortuza has been appointed Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), according to an official statement.
The Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education issued a gazette notification regarding his appointment on 16 February 2026. He has been appointed to the position with the approval of the President, who also serves as the Chancellor of the university.
Professor Mortuza is a distinguished academic currently serving as a professor in the Department of English at the University of Dhaka. From 2018 to 2022, he served as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of ULAB. He also previously worked as a Special Advisor to the Board of Trustees.
With more than 32 years of teaching experience in English departments at various universities, Professor Mortuza has made significant contributions to higher education. He earned his PhD in English Literature from Birkbeck, University of London. He is also a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California, Los Angeles.
