Shawkat Osman's 101st birth anniv today

The 101st birth anniversary of novelist and short story writer Sheikh Azizur Rahman popularly known as Shawkat Osman will be observed today (Tuesday) amid different programmes, reports BSS.

On this occasion, Kathashilpi Shawkat Osman Smriti Parishad and his family members will organise different programmes, including placing wreaths at his portrait, recitation, discussion, drama and film exhibition, in the capital and elsewhere across the country.

Renowned educationist Shawkat Osman was born at Sabolsinghpur in Hughli district of West Bengal in 1917.

He passed MA in Bangla in 1941 from Calcutta University. Earlier, in 1936, he worked briefly as a clerk in the Calcutta Corporation.
