'Smuggler' dies in Kushtia 'gunfight' with BGB men

KUSHTIA, Oct 29 (UNB): A suspected smuggler was killed in a 'gunfight' with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Jamalpur border in Daulatpur upazila in the early hours of Monday.

The dead is Haidul Forazi (24), son of Habu Forazi, a resident of Jamalpur village of the upazila.

Lt Col Rashed Khan, commanding officer of BGB-47 battalion, said on information that a gang of smugglers numbering 10 to 15 were entering the border from India with drugs, a team of BGB conducted a drive.

Sensing the presence of BGB members, the smugglers opened fire on them, prompting them to fire back.

After 20-minute gunfight the smugglers fled away and BGB team recovered the body of Haidul.

The team also recovered an LG, five bullets and eight packets of hemp and several bottles of Phensidyl.
