Police have arrested 11 staff of the Banani branch of Star Kabab and Restaurant for beating a customer who protested the serving of 'stale and stinky' Tikka kebab in Kacchi Biryani, reports bdnews24.com.
At least 11 staff members, including Manager Md Muslim, were arrested on Sunday, said Rasel Sarwar, chief of Banani Police Station.
The customer, Saleh Mohammed Rashid Alok, had filed a case with the Banani Police Station.
"Everyone related to the beating of the customer was arrested. We'll arrest anyone related to the incident," OC Sarwar said.
On Sunday afternoon, Alok went to Star Kabab to have lunch with a friend.
"I'm paying for the food. So why should I be served with stale and rotten food? I protested and asked them to change the food. They didn't do it. Instead, they began to insult me and said: 'Have you ever eaten this'? When I protested, they started beating me," Alok told the news agency.
"I want restaurants to think of the customers as patrons and provide proper service. At least 11 people were arrested on Sunday over the incident after my beating. I hope others will learn when they are punished."
Alok and his friend were served with rotten and smelly Tikka kebab along with the Kacchi Biryani, the case dossier said.
He then drew the attention of the Star Kabab staff. When his friend complained of stinky food, the manager insulted them. At one point, three other customers made the same complaints.
"The manager got mad at this and rang a bell to call all staff members. Then the Star Kabab staff beat Alok severely. His forehead was bloodied."
Since Md Muslim's arrest, Md Rasel Howladar has been serving as manager at the Banani branch of Star Kabab and Restaurant.
"Some of our staff were arrested. We're busy now and don't want to say anything at this time," he said when asked about the complaint.
