DU CORRESPONDENT

Students from seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University (DU) on Saturday announced new programmes to move forward with their demand seeking an independent university to break free from the associated institution.

The students have issued a three-day ultimatum to form a 'University Transformation Commission' to officially change their colleges into one university at a press conference held at Dhaka College in the capital.

Earlier on October 22, a 13-member reform committee was created in the face of students' protest to resolve the crises the colleges have been facing, such as session jams. However, students rejected its formation at the briefing.

Students said that the new commission as per their demand should be formed immediately, while they also called for the inclusion of student representatives as its members.

"Our programme to establish a university with seven colleges will continue. We will paint graffiti on Sunday, hold campaigns on Monday, and a rally is scheduled to be held on Tuesday," a female student representative read out a written statement at the briefing.

The students also expressed their frustration as there was an absence of student representatives in the 13-member reform committee they rejected.

Besides Dhaka College, the remaining institutions of the seven colleges are: Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Women's College, Government Bangla College, and Government Titumir College.
