Suspect drowns after jumping into Turag to flee locals

A man has drowned after he jumped into the Turag River in an attempt to escape locals, who were chasing him along with other youths believing that they had torched a bus in the capital's Mirpur area.

The deceased - Saiyaf (22) - was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College & Hospital on Thursday night, just after he jumped. The on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Meanwhile, locals handed over Nahian Amir Sani (18) to police for allegedly setting the vehicle alight with Saiyaf and others. The third suspect of the arson was identified as Rudra Mohammad, who had managed to escape.
