Sweden seeks peaceful solution to Rohingya issue

Newly appointed Swedish Ambassador Charlotta Schlyter reassured on Monday Bangladesh of her country's support for a peaceful solution to the Rohingya crisis. Schlyter came up with her country's stance when she met Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina at her Sangsad Bahban office, reports UNB.

PM's press secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting. He said the Prime Minister highly appreciated the strong role of Sweden over the Rohingya issue considering its humanitarian and political aspects.

Hasina informed the Ambassador that the presence of a large number of Rohingyas is creating socioeconomic, environmental and demographic problems in Bangladesh. "We've negotiated with Myanmar government over the issue, and the repatriation of the Myanmar nationals will start," she said.
