Teacher hurls acid on student in Habiganj

HABIGANJ, Aug 04 (UNB): A schoolboy sustained burn injuries as a teacher reportedly attacked him with acid during a laboratory class at Technical School and College.

The victim was identified as Moin Uddin, a student of class (IX) of the school.

After the incident, agitated students of the school blocked Habiganj-Sayestaganj road at 10:30 am for three hours.

Later, the protesters withdrew the blockade after police arrested the accused teacher Abdul Quaiyum.

Witnesses said the teacher hurled acid on Moin as he made noise during the practical class of laboratory.

The injured was rushed to Sadar Hospital as a large portion of his back was burnt.

College principal Habibur Rahman said a three-member committee was formed to probe the matter.

Meanwhile, the accused teacher said there was a misunderstanding as he wanted to throw water on the student but by mistake he threw acid.

Officer-in-Charge of Habiganj Police Station Md Yasinul Haque confirmed the matter.
