Three die of dengue, three of measles

The Director General of Health Service (DGHS) reported three new dengue deaths and 251 new hospitalisations in the past 24 hours. With the new fatalities, dengue-related deaths rose to 22.

Among the 251 newly-hospitalised patients, highest 66 were admitted in Barishal Division, 24 in Dhaka North City Corporation, and 33 in Dhaka South City Corporation.

The total number of dengue cases increased to 7,557 since January this year. Bangladesh recorded 1,02,861 dengue cases and 413 dengue-related deaths in 2025.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday directed all the government hospitals that dengue diagnosis tests (NS1) would be provided free of cost until the end of this December.

The directive came as the dengue infections and related casualties continue to rise amid an adverse weather. The DGHS directives asked the authorities concerned to take necessary steps to implement the decision.

Meanwhile, the DGHS registered three more casualties due to measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours until Wednesday.

With the new fatalities, the measles related deaths rose to 745 since mid-March this year. Of the total fatalities, 93 were confirmed cases, according to the DGHS bulletin.

As many as 796 suspected and 106 confirmed measles infections were recorded in the past 24 hours. The total suspected measles infections rose to 108,180 and confirmed infections to 13,070 since mid-March, said DGHS.
