The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) chairman Iqbal Mahmood said on Tuesday it is a must to initiate an IT-based monitoring system in the Commission to complete its enquiry and investigation within the stipulated time.
He also said it is among the priorities of the Commission to digitise the activities related to its complaint receiving, enquiry, investigation and corruption prevention.
The ACC chief made the observations at a meeting with the IT consultancy firm Technohaven-JV on the implementation of 'Enhancing Institutional Capacity of the ACC' held at the Commission headquarters in the city.
The technical project will stress four broad areas including IT infrastructure upgradation, investigation and prosecution management system (IPMS) implementation, improving preventive activities and ICT capacity enhancement.
The project is jointly funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB), South Korea and Bangladesh government. It will cost Tk 76 million to be completed by 2020.
Mentioning that the project will play a significant role in bringing inclusive change in the Commission's activities, Mr Mahmood said, "An IT- based system is necessary to monitor ACC activities, specially enquiry and investigation to finish in time."
He also noted that checking every document that the national anti-graft watchdog receives is almost impossible in current manual system.
The Commission wants to develop a technology- based system to scrutinise whether the allegations received by the ACC investigable or not, though the Commission follows a grading system to pick complaints for action, he added.
Technohaven consultant and former ACC commissioner Abul Hasan Manjur Mannan, ACC secretary Dr Shamsul Arefin, ACC director generals Md Munir Chowdhury (Admin), Moidul Islam (Legal), Mostafizur Rahman (Investigation) and Zafar Iqbal (Prevention) also attended the meeting.
