Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader said on Saturday the government has taken stringent measures to ensure overall security during Durga puja, reports BSS.

"The Hindu community in our country celebrates puja peacefully as the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina believes in inter communal coherence and mutual respect," the AL Quader said.

He made the remarks while addressing as the chief guest at the clothes distribution ceremony at city's Dhakeshwari Mandir on the occasion of Durga Puja.

Quader said tight security measures have been taken to assure the people of the Hindu community for smooth celebration of the puja.

The minister called upon the law enforcement agencies to remain cautious about the vested interests of those people who could create chaos and sabotage anywhere during the festival.

Asked about Prime Minister's anti-graft drive, Quader said as a part of government's zero-tolerance policy against corruption, the operation will continue to trace the wrongdoers.

"The drive is being conducted for the benefit of the citizens and the betterment of the country. Terrorism, drug dealing and corruption will be eradicated from the country for good," he said.

Mentioning about PM's order to keep the offenders away from the grassroot committees, he said anyone trying to tarnish the reputation of the government won't be spared.
