Tk 8.27b project for waste management in DNCC

FE Report | June 24, 2019 00:00:00

The government has taken a project involving Tk 8.27 billion to ensure proper management of waste in the Dhaka North City Corporation, officials said.

The DNCC will implement the three-year project titled 'Extension and Modernisation of Aminbazar Landfill'.

Under the project, new landfills and incineration plants will be set up and infrastructural facilities for resource recovery and disposal of medical waste be ensured.

As a result, Aminbazar landfill could accommodate waste for two more years.

While reviewing the project at his ministry on Sunday, local government, rural development and cooperatives minister Tajul Islam said the government has taken up the project to ensure proper waste management that will also help reduce pressure on earth.

Three plants set up on 68,200 square metres of land in the area (Aminbazar Landfill) will burn 500 tonnes of waste per day to generate electricity.

Besides, 13,600 square meters of land in the project area have been allocated for recycling medical waste and 16,000 square metres for setting up waste recycling facilities.

The minister said once the incineration plant goes into full operation, the lifespan of Aminbazar Landfill could be increased three times from one year.

Secretary of local government division Helaluddin Ahmed and high officials of DNCC, among others, were present.
