Tori provides education to street children

December 23, 2017 00:00:00

Tuhin, an eight-year street child, is now quite satisfied as he got an opportunity to carry out education in a school like Tori after his work, reports BSS.

From the very beginning of his childhood, he didn't get any scope of education in school like other children of the society.

"I have no parent...so I didn't get any opportunity to take admission to school since my childhood. But my dream at last comes true as Tori helps me to carry out my study," said a class-four student who lives on selling tea on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus.

"We had no other way to continue my education as my father was suddenly dead when I was in class eight and then 'Tori' stood beside me and managed a work (private tutorship) to continue my education since 2013," said Nargis Akther, a first-year (honours) student of Dhamrai National College.

Tori, a social welfare organisation, founded by a group of students of JU, basically has been motivating the street children toward education and providing them coaching free of cost since 2008.

Tori has no fund to assist the rootless street children financially, but it tries to manage work for them as they can run their education smoothly with their own efforts, said Shafiqul Islam Sakib, founder and president of the organisation.

Tori takes classes three days a week which are mostly held under the open sky or corridor of the cafeteria and also at any open place of the social science faculty on the campus.
