Tortured Barishal fourth grader dies in hospital

BARISHAL, Feb 23 (UNB): An 11-year-old schoolboy, beaten up following an altercation over standing in front of an irrigation pump, died at a hospital in the capital on Saturday.

Fourth-grader Sourav Mandal was the son of Kartik Mandal of Magura village in Gournadi Upazila of the district.

Locals said Bellal Molla and Faruk Hawladar tortured Sourav following a dispute over standing in front of the pump on February 15. They also pushed the boy into water.

Sourav was rescued by his family and hospitalised. He was later sent to a private hospital in Dhaka as his condition deteriorated.

Gaurnadi Model Police Station's Officer-in-Charge Golam Sarowar said the victim's father filed a case on Saturday naming four men.
