Two cases have been filed over the murder of army official Lt Tanzim Sarwar Nirjan, who was stabbed to death by robbers in Cox's Bazar's Chakaria, reports bdnews24.com.
A total of 25 suspects are accused in the two cases. Of them, 17 suspects are named.
Manzur Quader Bhuiyan, chief of Chakaria Police Station, said police personnel and army personnel filed two cases under separate laws on Wednesday midnight over the incident.
Senior Warrant Officer Abdullah Al Harunur Rashid of the army's Fansiakhali Camp filed a case of robbery and murder as plaintiff, while Sub Inspector Alamgir Hossain of the police filed the other case under the Arms Act.
OC Manz said 17 named suspects were accused in the two cases alongside eight unnamed others. So far, six of the accused have been arrested by joint forces.
They are Md Babul Prakash aka Babul Dakat, 44, Md Helal Uddin, 34, Md Arif Ullah, 25, Md Anwar Hakim, 28, Md Ziabul Karim, 45, and Md Hussain, 39. All of them hail from Chakaria Upazila.
Of the six, Babul has given a preliminary confession to stabbing Lt Tanzim, an Inter-Services Public Relations press release said.
Lt Tanzim was killed with a knife during a raid in the East Maizpara area of Dulhazra Union at around 03:00 am on Monday.
The ISPR says a team from the Chakaria Army camp was dispatched to a village in the area after a robbery was reported that night.
Lt Tanzim was chasing the group of seven to eight robbers during the operation when he was stabbed in the neck and began to bleed out profusely.
He was immediately rushed to Malumghat Memorial Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared that he was brought in dead.
