UGC alerts public univs to security of students

The University Grants Commission (UGC) urged in a statement on Tuesday the country's public university authorities to strengthen security in the backdrop of recent 'untoward incidents' on campuses.

The UGC issued the statement as it was observing with anxiety that "students are being victim of harassment in different ways at some public universities of the country. Even untoward incidents like killing are also taking place at these higher educational institutions."

The UGC urged the university administration to take immediate and effective steps to address any prevailing crisis.

The UGC also urged the university administration to alert the concerned provost, assistant provost/ house tutors to security of the students at every hall and university.
