ULAB-CSD report rings alarm bells on air pollution

February 11, 2019 00:00:00

Long term exposure to air pollution in Bangladesh is expected to reduce life expectancy by three to seven years.

A report titled 'Breathing Health(ier) Amid Rapid Urbanisation' highlighted the dire condition of the air, says a press release.

The Centre for Sustainable Development (CSD) at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) released the report at a function in the city on Saturday.

The report found that air pollution increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and lung cancer.

Among babies and children, it increases the risk of lung infections and breathing problems, and contributes to reduced lung functionality over the long term, it added.
