US varsity students keen to research on \\\'71 genocide

Students of Kean University of the USA have expressed their desire to conduct research on the 1971 genocide of Bangladesh., reports BSS.

"The genocide of 1971 in Bangladesh is rarely being discussed and researched in the global arena in comparison to the Genocide of Cambodia. Our students want to work on 1971 genocide," Sue Gronewold, professor in the History Department at Kean University said in Dhaka Monday,.

"People working on genocides must know the 1971 genocide in Bangladesh," Professor Sue said at a discussion organized by Liberation War Museum at its auditorium.

Among others, media personality Mamunur Rashid, journalist and writer Kazi Rozi, trustee member of Liberation War Museum Mofidul Haque and Dr Sarwar Ali were present.

Professor Sue discussed about genocides of different countries, saying, "A discussion was held on Bangladesh genocide at Kean University in 2010. It inspired me to work on it".

He called upon the world to recognise the atrocities and inhuman activities carried out in Bangladesh in 1971 as genocide and said, "Trial must be held for the genocide as it is moral rights of Bangladeshi people."

Prof Sue came to Dhaka Sunday night at the invitation of Centre for Genocide Studies of Dhaka University. He visited different sites of Liberation War Museum before participating in the discussion and commended the museum for preserving documents of providing support to the Liberation War of 1971 by the people across the globe.
