CHITTAGONG, Jan 19: Using the achievements from university matters more than the achievements themselves, Education Advisor Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar said on Monday at the third convocation ceremony of Chittagong Independent University (CIU).

"It's not what you achieve in university, but what you do with those achievements that matters," Professor Rafiqul said.

The convocation was held at the Navy Convention Center at Tiger Pass in the port city in the morning.

Addressing the function as chief guest, the education advisor said, "You have entered a new life, where you will have to make various decisions. Take time to make decisions wisely. Be reasonable and maintain fairness."

Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman, chairperson of BRAC, addressed the function. He said that a bachelor's degree is not a reward, but rather a promise-one that opens new doors and possibilities. However, just earning a degree does not fulfill that promise; a combination of practical experience and skills will take students forward, he added.

CIU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mir Mohammad Nurul Absar, University Grants Commission (UGC) Member Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain, CIU Board of Trustees Chairman Lutfe M Ayub, and Founder Chairman of ESTCD Trust Mohammad Zakaria Khan also addressed the function.

A total of 168 students from various faculties of CIU were awarded degrees at the ceremony. Of them, 121 are graduates and the remaining 47 are postgraduate students. At the event, seven students were awarded the "Top Achievers" award for their outstanding performance in their respective programmes.
