UTL protests Israeli attack on Global Flotilla

It forms a human chain at Dhaka University

DU CORRESPONDENT | October 05, 2025 00:00:00

Teachers, students, and human rights activists under the banner of the University Teachers Link (UTL) formed a human chain at Dhaka University (DU) protesting the Israeli attack on the 'Global Sumud Flotilla', an international humanitarian mission carrying food, relief, and medical supplies for the besieged people of Gaza.

The protest was held on Saturday (October 4) at 11:30 am at the base of the 'Aparajeyo Bangla' sculpture on the DU campus. The event was conducted by Professor Md Belal Hossain, while several teachers from UTL and other universities addressed the gathering.

Speaking at the human chain, Dr Md Kamrul Hasan, a member of UTL, said, "The conscience of the world is silent today. International organisations are failing to act as expected. Israel has turned Gaza into a valley of death. The Sumud Flotilla aims to awaken the world's moral conscience."

He added, "We want global humanity to rise so that no more children or mothers have to drown in blood. This barbarity of Israel must be stopped."

Professor Md Mustafizur Rahman from the Islamic University said, "The people of Palestine are being slaughtered only because they are Muslims. This is a shameful chapter in human history. Despite being a small state, Israel has put the entire world at risk."

Expressing solidarity with the Sumud Flotilla, he said, "Some people are simply trying to deliver food and medicine to Gaza, yet Israel cannot tolerate even that. They have blocked this humanitarian mission. Where is the United Nations now? Where is the OIC?"

Professor Dr Md Abu Sayem of DU said, "The brutality Israel has been committing against our Muslim brothers and sisters in Gaza for the past two years is unimaginable. The silence of the Muslim world is disgraceful. Humanity has fallen asleep."

He further added, "The agreement being imposed on Palestinians will destroy their dream of an independent homeland. I strongly condemn such forced settlements. Coexistence between Palestine and Israel based on a two-state solution is the only sustainable path to peace."

Professor H M Mosharraf Hossain called for an immediate end to Israeli aggression in Gaza, lifting of the blockade, and international recognition of Palestine as a free and sovereign state.
