Prices of vegetables, newly-harvested onions and potatoes, eggs and chicken declined in last week.

New onions are selling in Dhaka for Tk 80-100 per kg, which is about Tk 10 less than the previous week, according to market sources.

A visit to Shekhertek-8, Rayer Bazar and a few other markets on Friday showed a slightly higher supply of new onions.

Newly-harvested seed onions (Murikata) are being sold at Tk 80-100 per kg, while last-season onions are Tk 130-140.

Grocer Golam Hossain said prices of Murikata onions depend on supply and quality.

Bigger onions cost a bit more. He said prices may fall further if supply increases. Potato prices have also remained low from the beginning of the season.

New potatoes are now selling at Tk 30-35 per kg, down by Tk 5.0, while old potatoes are still Tk 20-25 per kg.

Not only potatoes-prices of most winter vegetables have declined. Cauliflower and cabbage, which were Tk 40-50 last week, are now Tk 30-40 per piece.

Brinjal was sold for Tk 60-80 per kg, with long varieties cheaper. Country bean prices vary depending on type. Regular green beans are Tk 50-60 per kg, while colourful beans cost Tk 80-100 a kg.

Prices of turnip, onion plant, carrot, tomato and winter bottle gourd also declined by Tk 10 a kg.

Egg and broiler chicken prices also declined further last week. Farm eggs were sold for Tk 110-120 per dozen. Broiler chicken was retailed at Tk 150-160 per kg on Friday--down by Tk 10 a kg in a week.
