Video messages of Hadi murder prime suspect under scrutiny: DMP chief

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali said that police were scrutinising two video messages reportedly released by Faisal Karim Masud, the prime suspect in the murder of Inquilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.

"No comments. We (police) are closely examining the video messages (of Faisal Karim Masud). After completing scrutiny of the video we will speak," he told the media about the video messages of Faisal Karim Masud at the 'Bashundhara Paper CRAB Best Reporting Award -2025' at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the capital.

Asked about providing security to the candidates ahead of the upcoming national election, he replied, "Security is being provided to many candidates; more (candidates) want to get it."

He said that the government was providing gunmen to the candidates considering the security threats to them and based on police logistics and reports of the Special Branch (SB) of police.

He said that police were ready to provide gunmen if any candidates feel insecure during the upcoming parliamentary polls.

He, however, said that deploying an adequate number of police personnel during election was the top most priority of the police.

He also said that police have to maintain balance in providing election-time security considering the existing resources and logistics.

The DMP chief also requested the journalists to maintain their professionalism.

"Police officials are transferred from one place to another ahead of the upcoming elections," he said, adding, "They (police officials) are discharging their duties sincerely despite some limitations and difficulties."

He expressed the hope that if the law and order situation could be maintained properly during the next 40 days, then the national elections could be held peacefully.
